The perfect day. I don’t often post personal stu The perfect day. I don’t often post personal stuff but I think today has brought together so many of my favourite things that it’s worth sharing. I know that @robertelmsshow has a Listed Londoner slot where guests describe their perfect day off; well, I think I’ve just had mine! A trip with my wonderful Annie @artgemsjewellery on the Elizabeth line from Farringdon to Tottenham Court not because we needed to go there, but just to try out the railway! It was great. The scale of the foot tunnels is about 75% larger than the rest of the tube which gives a feeling of airiness and freedom. Then a walk though Holborn past my favourite shop @walkerslater (I’m in one of their suits) to Lincoln’s Inn Fields where we had a perfect view of the fly past for the Jubilee. Then off to the Soane Museum @soanemuseum , my all time favourite museum for a wonderful and informative guided tour of Soane’s model room and private apartment. What a day off!

Making up a collection of components for casting i Making up a collection of components for casting in a rubber mould. This is a very useful technique when it comes to repetitive details, especially fiddly ones like these castellated tower tops for Rockingham Castle.
Thanks as always to @4d_modelshop for making up the 3D prints and to @immy.rt for her invaluable Rhino skills. Nearly everything I build is made by hand but there’s a lot to be said for a little 3D printing to mix in with that too.

Just for the mega curious there are also a few hand lathed urns in there too for another project.

I’m letting the cork fly! Making the base plinth I’m letting the cork fly! Making the base plinth for a model of Rockingham Castle has already taken 25m of cork sandwiched in layers to create the undulating Leicestershire landscape. All of the contour lines were drawn up and each layer cut through a paper template. Very repetitive work but a great result soon to be clad in plaster.

Rockingham Castle in Leicestershire is celebrating their 950th anniversary with this model, showing a historic reconstruction of the castle as it was in the 13th century. More to follow as the work progresses! @rockinghamcastleofficial

A change of scale.. work begins on a brand new pro A change of scale.. work begins on a brand new project. I have been commissioned by @rockinghamcastleofficial to create a model of the famous Rockingham Castle in Leicestershire for their 950th anniversary celebrations. The model will be a historic reconstruction showing the castle as it was in the 13th century. Many weeks have been spent on planning and research and now the construction is coming together. More to follow as the work progresses!

This is a recent favourite project, I just love th This is a recent favourite project, I just love the architectural details and design of this type of late Victorian London house. I’m always in awe of the builders of these types of properties. So much work went into carving the acanthus leaf capitals and creating the intricate patterns on the lintels, and these houses were built in such staggering numbers in the latter half of the 19th century. A stunning endeavour!
