I like to add as much personal detail as I can into each model I make. This includes half drawn curtains made of fine paper at the windows, plants in pots or creepers growing up the walls, meticulously constructed in thin sheets of brass. Sometimes even pets looking out of the windows, or in one case a pair of tiny wellington boots on the doormat, which had to be hand carved from tiny blocks of wood. On the day of my survey I take dozens of pictures and the photos provide a literal snapshot, as I replicate exactly what I record. In years to come, the house will change. It may be sold, enlarged, re-painted or even demolished. Then, I hope that the models will provide a sense of fascination as the scene from an ordinary day is captured and suspended in miniature.
