Since 2016, when I started the box-framed model idea I have been invited to make some amazing houses. The architecture always varies for each commission. Even when I have made models of houses only two streets apart, the details are similar, but subtly different. Each house is individual, as is each client. Over the years, it has become more and more apparent that the story behind the models, the reason people want them, and what the models mean to their families, is the most important part of my work.

The models always create an emotional reaction of some sort. Mostly surprise, as many of them are secret gifts, sometimes wonder at the size and detail, sometimes there are tears of sadness if the house is being sold and the family is moving on, but I am always moved by how much these models mean. Just as the buildings themselves have been reduced in size and brought down to a form where all the architecture can be taken in at one glance, the situation that prompted the model being commissioned is also there to be seen, a story ready to be unlocked.

This small and fairly modern house in the north of England was greatly loved by the owners and their relations over the years. An emblem of solid and lasting happiness.
